The ELVI-451i dishwasher makes room for dinner's untidy ending

Generous capacity and automatic door opening make the ELVI-451i a practical prospect for overnight washing-up. We like the adjustable upper basket for loads that change with the cooking. Its appeal is strongest when you can leave the eco programme running until morning.

Verdict

7.7/10

Our verdict on a roomy dishwasher with an electricity drawback

When the kitchen light goes out with the sink already clear, this dishwasher's appeal is easy to understand. We like its roomy loading arrangement and help with drying. It is well placed overall, with practical features that serve a familiar evening routine. Space earns its keep here.

Our verdict: We recommend it for households wanting generous loading flexibility behind a furniture door. If water use matters most, the Miele G 7980 SCVi AutoDos K2O uses less water at a similar capacity.

Watch out for What holds us back is the unusually high eco electricity consumption. Avoid it if reducing electricity use is central to your choice, particularly when frequent loads are part of household life.

Review by Romain Brunel, founder of Dishwasher Picks

Who it's for

Who will appreciate the ELVI-451i most after dinner?

  • Households cooking with several pans
  • People who unload in the morning
  • Kitchens planned around concealed appliances

This dishwasher suits households whose cooking produces more than a neat stack of plates. If a weekday pasta supper leaves bowls, a pan and a serving dish waiting together, the generous capacity and adjustable upper basket offer useful flexibility. It also makes sense for people happy to unload after breakfast rather than immediately after dinner.

Less suitable if

Look elsewhere if your priority is keeping appliance noise especially low during evenings in a shared kitchen and living space. It is also a poor match for a kitchen planned around a visible appliance front, since this model requires a covering furniture door.

Our scores explained

Every model on the site is scored on the same criteria, using the same scale: its position among models with verified data for that specification. Last place earns 6.5, first place 9.6, and the rest are scored in proportion to their rank. Here is how this model's scores are calculated.

Two model counts: the rank and average include product pages on this site scored for the criterion; the calculation compares the model with all catalogue models whose specification is verified, with or without a product page. A score assigned at publication may remain without a verified specification, so the first count can sometimes be higher.

Our full methodology

Detailed analysis

The draining board need not become an overnight storage system for everything dinner leaves behind. The Essentielb ELVI-451i combines generous loading space with an adjustable upper basket and a door that opens automatically when the cycle finishes. There is plenty to appreciate for the evening routine, although its electricity demands make the decision less straightforward than the loading features suggest.

The ELVI-451i gives you 14 place settings for dishes beyond the dinner plates

The lunch plates have been cleared, but there is still a saucepan beside the hob and a serving dish waiting for attention. With 14 place settings, the ELVI-451i offers a large capacity that leaves room for dishes and saucepans. Place settings are a standardised measure covering plates, glasses and cutlery, rather than a promise about how many people you can feed before loading becomes awkward.

The adjustable upper basket is the useful detail here. Changing its height gives you a way to organise the space around the contents of a particular load. A cutlery basket provides a dedicated home for forks and spoons, while taking up some basket space itself. The saucepan does not get diplomatic immunity.

Do your loads change from breakfast bowls to bulky cookware across the week? That flexibility matters. There is also a half load option for occasions when the baskets are not full, although it would be wrong to assume that it halves consumption.

At 45 decibels, the ELVI-451i dishwasher needs a place in your evening

An evening film can make every kitchen sound seem more noticeable, particularly when the sofa faces the cooking area. The declared 45 decibels applies to the eco programme and sits around the average. That gives you a sensible reference for planning when to run it, without suggesting that it will disappear into the background.

Room layout still matters. A machine behind a kitchen furniture door remains part of the room acoustically; the concealed front does not establish how unobtrusive it will sound. If someone regularly reads at the kitchen table after dinner, programme timing deserves a place in the buying decision.

Would you prefer it running during supper or after everyone has gone upstairs? For a household that starts a load before bedtime, the appeal is practical: the washing-up can be dealt with while the kitchen is otherwise out of use. We would be more cautious about choosing it specifically for minimal evening noise.

An eco cycle of 240 min asks you to plan until morning

Breakfast is the sensible deadline for an eco load started after dinner: its 240 min duration leaves little room for a late change of menu that needs the same dishes again. Give it the night. A very long eco programme is not a fault in itself, since taking more time helps save resources. It simply suits a routine where unloading can wait until morning.

Electricity is the harder part to accept. At 84.9 kWh/100 cycles on eco, consumption is among the highest declared figures. This is the main reservation behind our recommendation. Its D energy class reinforces the need to consider electricity use if the machine will run frequently.

Water consumption tells a less demanding story. The eco figure of 9.9 L/cycle is around the average, rather than a particular strength. Keep capacity in mind when comparing appliances: a smaller dishwasher using less water does not automatically use less for each plate. Here, filling the available space sensibly is more useful than looking at consumption in isolation.

A fully integrated front makes the kitchen measurements matter

The Essentielb ELVI-451i is fully integrated, meaning a kitchen furniture door covers its front. That furniture door is not supplied. The fixing system is fixed, so the installer needs to match the panel arrangement as well as the appliance space. A concealed appliance still needs an installation plan.

Its width is 60 cm, height 82 cm and depth 57 cm. Those measurements are the starting point for checking your recess, with the panel and installation requirements considered alongside them. Knowing the gap beside the sink by heart is useful; checking it before ordering is better.

Automatic door opening adds another practical consideration. At the end of the cycle, the door opens to let steam escape and help drying. This should support the morning unloading routine, but it does not promise dry plastic containers. Plan around the door opening as well as the closed appliance. Before ordering, confirm delivery, old appliance removal, warranty cover and returns arrangements with the retailer.

Our Essentielb ELVI-451i review points to alternatives for quieter evenings

Overall, this model is well placed in our assessment. Its combination of generous loading space, an adjustable upper basket and automatic door opening makes sense for a household that wants dinner cleared away before settling down. The alternatives become interesting when a particular daily irritation takes priority.

For a kitchen open to the living room, the Hisense HS693A90XAD is better suited, with a lower declared eco noise level of 40 decibels. The Hisense HS693A90XAD also has a higher place settings value at 16 place settings, making it relevant when larger gatherings regularly leave extra washing-up.

The Miele G 7980 SCVi AutoDos K2O uses less water, with an eco figure of 8.4 L/cycle. The Miele G 7980 SCVi AutoDos K2O has a similar place settings value, so that water comparison concerns comparable loading capacity. Choose according to the routine you want to improve: evening conversation, room for more dishes, or water use across regular loads.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions before choosing the ELVI-451i dishwasher

Does the ELVI-451i need a kitchen furniture door?

Yes. It is fully integrated, so a kitchen furniture door covers the front and must be supplied separately. The panel fixing is fixed. Confirm the panel arrangement and installation requirements with your installer before ordering.

Can the ELVI-451i accommodate saucepans alongside plates?

Its 14 place settings indicates a large capacity with room for dishes and saucepans. That standardised measure covers plates, glasses and cutlery, rather than an exact diner count. The height-adjustable upper basket helps organise different loads, and cutlery goes in a basket.

Will automatic door opening leave every container dry?

The door opens automatically at the end of the cycle to release steam and help drying. That is useful support for unloading later, but plastic containers may still retain moisture. Automatic opening does not promise that every item will emerge dry.

Is the half load option useful for smaller loads?

It gives you an option when there is less washing-up and the baskets are not full. Do not assume that selecting it halves water or electricity consumption. For a household that usually waits for a full load, it offers flexibility when plans change.
